NYS Federation Announces Schedule for 2017 Basketball
Tournament of Champions on March 24-26 at Glens Falls Civic Center
GLENS FALLS – The New York State Federation of Secondary Schools Athletic Association (NYSFSSAA) has announced the matchups and game times for its 2017 Basketball Tournament of Champions on March 24-26 at the Glens Falls Civic Center in Glens Falls. The three-day event is sponsored in part by the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council and returns to the Glens Falls Civic Center for the first time in six years. The tournament is scheduled to stay in Glens Falls through 2019.
The boys tournament was held in Glens Falls for 30 years (1981-2010) while the girls tournament was held in Glens Falls for 16 years (1995-2010) before both went to the Times Union Center in 2012.
This year’s schedule is as follows:
Friday, March 24th
9 AM – Boys Class B Semifinal – Westhill (PHSAA) vs Dwight School (AISAA)
11 AM – Boys Class B Semifinal – Fannie Lou Hamer (PSAL) vs La Salle Academy (CHSAA)
1 PM – Girls Class AA Semifinal – Baldwin (PHSAA) vs The Mary Louis Academy (CHSAA)
3 PM – Girls Class AA Semifinal – South Shore (PSAL) vs Long Island Lutheran (AISAA)
5 PM – Girls Class B Semifinal – Seton Catholic (PHSAA) vs Rucker (PSAL)
7 PM – Boys Class AA Semifinal – Mount Vernon (PHSAA) vs Long Island Lutheran (AISAA)
9 PM – Boys Class AA Semifinal –Cardinal Hayes – Bronx (CHSAA) vs Lincoln HS (PSAL)
Saturday, March 25th
9 AM – Girls Class A Semifinal – Staten Island Academy (AIS) vs James Madison (PSAL)
11 AM – Girls Class A Semifinal – Kellenberg Memorial (CHSAA) vs Jamesville-DeWitt (PHSAA)
1 PM – Boys Class A Semifinal – Irondequoit (PHSAA) vs Albany Academy (AISAA)
3 PM – Boys Class A Semifinal – Monsignor Farrell – Staten Island (CHSAA) vs Walton (PSAL)
5 PM – Boys Class B Final
7 PM – Girls Class AA Final
9 PM – Boys Class AA Final
Sunday, March 20th
Noon – Girls Class A Final
2 pm – Girls Class B Final
4 pm – Boys Class A Final
“We are excited about our return to Glens Falls,” said Jim Foster, Executive Secretary. “Albany did an outstanding job the last several years and Glens Falls will now have a chance to host this great three-day basketball event. We are looking forward to the enthusiasm of the local planning committee, led by Tournament Director Chip Corlew, to run a successful tournament this weekend.”
The NYSFSSAA Basketball Tournament of Champions is an event comprised of representatives from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA), the New York City Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL), Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA), and the New York State Association of Independent Schools Athletic Association (AISAA) in Classes AA, A, and B. The majority of participating schools qualifying for the tournament are located in the New York City and Long Island areas with the remainder from upstate New York. This is the first year of a three-year bid for the City of Glens Falls to host the tournament.
Tickets are $12 per day for general admission seating, and can be purchased at the box office at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
