Lansing’s Duthie leads after first round of NYSPHSAA Boys Golf Championship, Section I leads team standings

ITHACA, N.Y. — The first round of the NYSPHSAA Boys Golf Championship was completed on Sunday at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University despite a 2 ½ hour delay for thunderstorms in the Ithaca area and heavy rains that followed after the resumption of play.

John Duthie (Lansing HS-Section IV) is the leader after the first round with a four-under-par 68. He has a two-stroke lead and is followed by Mark Mumford (Rye HS-Section I), who carded a score of 70. Chris DeForest (Rondout Valley HS-Section IX) and Matt Stasiak (Clarence HS-Section VI) finished in a tie for third place, with each player shooting one-under-par rounds of 71. In all, seven players were even par or better on the day.

Section I leads the team scoring with a best seven-out-of-nine total of 519, followed by second-place Section IX with a score of 521 and third-place Section XI with a score of 529.

The tournament concludes Monday with the second of two rounds starting at 7:30 a.m.
