Lansing’s John Duthie wins NYSPHSAA Boys Golf Championship in playoff;
Section IX wins sectional championship

ITHACA, N.Y. — Under much improved conditions, the second round of the 2007 NYSPHSAA Boys Golf Championship was played Monday at Cornell's Robert Trent Jones Golf Course. John Duthie (Lansing HS-IV) won the individual title in a two-man playoff, defeating Matt Jaye (James I. O’Neill HS-IX) on the first playoff hole after both players finished with a two-day total of five-under-par 139.

Jaye had the low round of the day with a round of six-under-par 66 and came from five shots back at the beginning of the second round to force the playoff. Matt Stasiak (Clarence HS-VI) placed third at one-under-par 143 after a round of 72 on Monday. Defending champion Andrew Kay (Pittsford Sutherland HS-V) finished in a tie for 13th place with a two-day total of 150.

Other low rounds on the day included Ed Herzog (Lansing HS-IV) with a score of 68, Doug Kleeschulte (Kingston HS-IX) and Max Buckley (Rye HS-I) had rounds of 70, and Mike Miller (Brewster HS-I) had a score of 71.

Section IX won the sectional championship for the second time in three years with a two-day total of 1,046, which includes the best seven-out-of-nine scores from both rounds. Section IX finished 12 shots ahead of second-place Section I and 17 shots ahead of third-place Section XI.
