Bozzelli leads after Round 1 of NYSPHSAA Boys Golf Championship, Section V leads team standings

ITHACA, N.Y. — The first round of the NYSPHSAA Boys Golf Championship was completed on Sunday at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University under perfect course conditions in Ithaca.

Dominic Bozzelli (McQuaid Jesuit HS-Section V) is the leader after the first round with a 3-under-par 69. He has a one-stroke lead and is followed by Brandon Meltzer (Half Hollows Hills East-XI), Yarik Merkulov (Penfield HS-V), and Andrew DeForest (Rondout Valley HS-IX), who all carded scores of 70. In all, six players were even par or better on the day.

Section V leads the team scoring with a best seven-out-of-nine total of 522 (+18), followed by second-place Section XI with a score of 523 (+19) and third-place Section IX with a score of 535 (+31).

The tournament concludes Monday, June 2 with the second of two rounds starting at 7:30 a.m.
