NYSPHSAA to hold baseball coaches clinic

Friday, March 2 at National Baseball Hall of Fame

LATHAM, N.Y. (Jan. 31, 2007) — The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) is set to hold a baseball coaches clinic at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum & Clark Sports Center Gymnasium in Cooperstown on Friday, March 2.

The clinic will offer a wide variety of workshops pertaining to baseball management and strategies for success. The workshops will also include advice on developing a sign system, tips on how to develop strong pitchers and catchers, information on effective defensive drills, as well as, what scouts look for in emerging players.

The clinic features some of the top baseball coaches and instructors from every level of play. The keynote speaker will be Tom Moore, Assistant Director of International and Professional Scouting for the Detroit Tigers. Moore was with the Tigers during their 2006 World Series run and has great insight into the world of scouting operations with a keen eye for emerging players who can succeed at the professional level.

Clinicians scheduled to lecture include: Tony Abbatine, National Director of "Frozen Ropes Training Center" — the catalyst behind the Frozen Ropes teaching model; Dave Guido, head baseball coach at Proctor High School and former catcher at the University of Central Florida; Mike Marra, head coach at Sullivan Community College; Richard Hunt, Educational Chairman of the Society of American Baseball Research and former pitching coach at Hamilton College for 19 years along with several others baseball experts.

Registration for the one-day workshop begins at 7:30 a.m. on Friday morning in the Hall of Fame Welcome Area and the workshop begins at 8:15 a.m. Friday’s lectures will be preceded by an informal Coaches Cracker Barrel Q&A session at O'Hanlan's American Steak House on Thursday, March 1 at 8 p.m. The clinic is $75 if registration is submitted by February 23, 2007 and will be $85 thereafter.
